The maestro of music and durags, ‘Kechi (born Ikechi Chijiuba Ihemeson) is a singer, rapper, songwriter, composer and musician. His music incorporates elements of hip hop, soul, jazz, classical, gospel and funk into his poetic, lyrical writing style. ‘Kechi speaks from his unique Black experience influenced by a clash of cultures, from his classical voice training to his suburban upbringing in an Igbo-Nigerian household. He seeks to take these foreign facets and create familiarity for his fans. A multitalented performer, ‘Kechi has graced the stages of Chicago venues such as Metro, Elbo Room and Empty Bottle (as a headliner) and collaborated with Chicago Fringe Opera, AT&T, Young Chicago Authors, Teach for America and Guitars Over Guns. He’s been a feature artist for Chicago platforms FDC Studios and Wreckshop Live on Vans Channel 66. ‘Kechi has also proven to be an effective visual storyteller, with his debut music video for his single “Opening Thought” being selected as part of the 2021 Hip Hop Film Festival NYC.
