Arto Ikävalko (b. 1992) is one of the most active Finnish jazz pianists of his generation. His debut album ”Changing Priors” will be released the 26th of April 2024. As a trio with bassist Joonas Tuuri and drummer Ville Luukkonen, Ikävalko has recorded a truly captivating album. In his compositions he has created moods and visions of different kinds of imaginary worlds. The album delves into themes of how rigorous beliefs shape the way we experience the constantly changing world. He has also been interested in the mysteries of being and the future of human consciousness existing side by side with ever increasing prominence of artificial intelligence. What kind of music would conscious artificial intelligence prefer? The musicians on the recording have worked closely together as a trio for over a decade, also known to the followers of the Finnish jazz scene from the band of vocalist Anna Inginmaa. On their weekly concerts at the legendary Manala restaurant in Helsinki, the trio has been backing many widely known visiting soloists such as Jukka Perko, Anna Inginmaa, Mikko Karjalainen, Susanna Alexandra and Mathias Sandberg. On ”Changing Priors” Ikävalko takes the lead and steps out as the primary artist and composer.
