Hailing from Plateau State, Nigeria, Daniel Ritkat Yakzum discovered his talent for rapping at the tender age of 9. Born in Zaria and raised in Jos, he began crafting songs in his notepads and recording school projects while in high school. Despite considering his first solo single in 2016 a flop, Reetkat (fka R.K.R) persevered, releasing his debut EP, "Blink__Blank" on SoundCloud and Audiomack in 2018. This alternative/experimental rap project officially marked the beginning of his musical journey, which has since seen him explore various genres while honing his skills in singing, rapping, and songwriting. Undeterred by initial low streaming numbers, Reetkat established his own mini recording studio and formed the Not For Radio (NFR) Collective with friends from his neighbourhood. His perseverance paid off in 2023 when his EP, "SUMMER SMASH!" garnered over 50,000 streams across platforms without any sponsorship, promotion, or marketing. Known for his fluid approach to music, Reetkat defies expectations with each release, blurring genre lines and giving each song what he feels it needs, rather than conforming to audience expectations.
