There is a myth in the music industry that hip hop has been dead for years now. But Dallas MC Rakim Al-Jabbaar would say that is not true. He keeps the heartbeat alive on Dallas’ underground music scene by blending together classic dirty south flavor, with a heavy east coast street-conscious undertone. The independent artist was awarded “Best Songwriter” at the 31st Dallas Observer Music Awards in 2019 and “Indy Rapper of the Year” at the 2019 Central Track Music Honors. And while holding a solid underground presence in Dallas, Rakim is no stranger to the mainstream circuit. After the release of his second studio album, Underground GOD, Rakim hit the road with Wu-Tang Clan during their 25th Anniversary tour called 36 Chambers. Hip hop has been engraved in Rakim’s genetics since birth. His father, Big Al is considered Dallas hip hop royalty, and Rakim credits a lot of his natural born talent to his father. Rakim will continue to contribute to the legacy his father left behind by taking the hip hop baton and running with it.
