Bràthair is a collaboration incepted during the summer of 2021 between Scottish composer Joseph Stevenson and his mother, veteran pianist Katharine Durran. With a sound distinctly rooted in both Scottish and Irish traditional music, Bràthair takes inspiration from both contemporary classical artists such as Ólafur Arnalds and Dustin O’Halloran, and folk acts such as The Gloaming and Mike Vass. Combining the peaceful and tactile intimacy of the felted upright piano with a warm celtic flair, Bràthair’s simple, lyrical melodies and subtle, fluid accompaniments form a unique and deeply song-like folk inspired sound.
