Biography

Based in Gravette, AR, Crow Johnson is a popular songwriter in the South and West. She edits the magazine Zassafrass Music News, and has sporadically released folk-jazz albums since the early 60's. Starting in the Houston coffee house circuit, she took the name Crow Johnson from her grandfather's Native American name and her ex-husband's last name. She played around the area with many of the early Texas songwriters that would go onto rock success, inclusing Townes Van Zandt and Janis Joplin. Moving to England in 1968, she wrote material there for other artists, eventually going back to the States and beginning her life as a solo folk singer. She was diagnosed with cancer in the 80's, but she survived the disease and it went into remission in the early 90's. ~ Richard Meyer, Rovi
