Christopher Ward studied at Oxford University and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London. He was a member of the Internationales Opernstudio Zürich before moving to Germany in 2005 to work as Kapellmeister and Solorepetitor at Staatstheater Kassel. In 2006, he assisted Sir Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic, and in 2009 became Kapellmeister and Assistant to Kent Nagano at the Bavarian State Opera. From 2014 he worked as 1. Kapellmeister at the Saarländisches Staatstheater, and has since made guest appearances at the Staatsoper Hamburg, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Komische Oper Berlin, National Theatre Prague, Staatsoper Prag and the Bregenz Festival. In 2019 he conducted at short notice the world premiere of Jörg Widmann’s Babylon for an indisposed Daniel Barenboim at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Berlin. Christopher Ward is currently Generalmusikdirektor of Theater and Sinfonieorchester Aachen.
