Edinburgh-born Billy Got Waves began his musical journey at 12, quickly making waves in Scotland’s alternative rap scene. His 2018 debut Kill Billy earned the 2019 IMA Award for Best Scottish Album, establishing him as a unique voice in hip-hop. In 2020, Billy collaborated with Joell on @Wish You Well, a futuristic alternative trap EP that garnered over a million Spotify streams. This success set the stage for his most ambitious work: the @Rocket Boy trilogy. Created with producers Baygee and S-Type , the trilogy explores themes of addiction, growth, and redemption, divided into “Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven.” Rocket Boy 1/3 confronts addiction with raw introspection in tracks like @Poison and Low / Angels . 2/3 explores emotional turmoil with tracks like Jean Paul Gaultier and Slow / 10's & 9's. 3/3 culminates in love and transformation with With You. The trilogy features powerful vocal contributions, including Alloysious Massaquoi of Young Fathers, Rav Steelo with impeccable bars, Shaqdi creating an ethereal atmosphere, and producer Baygee adding his signature vocals. Billy also ventured into drum-and-bass with @Elixir a 2023 collaboration with Refracta, released via UKF’s Pilot Records. Additionally, his collaboration with Tzusan , The Girl With The Dragonfly Tattoo, showcases his ability to blend genres seamlessly. Billy continues to evolve, combining introspective lyricism with innovative sound, securing his place as one of Scotland’s most exciting artists.
