Biography

Coming from a borough rich with hip hop tradition, Brownsville, Brooklyn native Young Lito is carrying the torch forward for the next generation of BK wordsmiths. Attentive from an early age, Lito’s deeply rooted love for music began as he grew up with an aunt who herself was a talented rapper from Brooklyn. Growing up in the neighborhood's Marcus Garvey Projects his first explorations of writing as a vocation started in school, however, by way of poetry contests, of which the clever scribe would regularly take home first place. Lito’s initial forays into music were tentative, casually lending his talents as a punchline maestro to friends and future collaborators. Being heavily influenced by fellow Brooklynites Fabolous and Jay Z, as well as Atlanta legend, Jeezy, though, Young Lito was destined to eventually find his way to the booth and carve his own lane as a lyricist. After honing his craft freestyling on various industry instrumentals, he reworked the Future smash hit “Tony Montana,” which caught the attention of widely respected and accomplished artist manager, Hovain Hylton. This interaction had him off to the races and Lito would soon find himself rubbing shoulders with hip hop’s elite after being tapped to freestyle on air at Hot 97 with Funkmaster Flex and at Power105 with DJ Self. In a seminal moment in Lito’s career, cultural gatekeeper Sway Calloway declared his Sway in the Morning freestyle, “top 10.”
