Recently shortlisted in the category ‘Young Singer’ at the 2023 International Opera Awards, Laurence is a multi-award winning British tenor, having achieved first prizes in the Cesti Competition at the Innsbrück Early Music Festival, the Wigmore Hall International Song Competition and ‘Das Lied’ at the Heidelberger Frühling Festival. Born in Oxford, he was a former chorister with the Tewkesbury Abbey Schola Cantorum and enjoyed an early career as a boy soprano, having won the title of BBC Radio Two Young Chorister of the Year in 2009. During his formative years as a young tenor, he worked with Welsh National Opera and Longborough Festival Opera as a young artist before studying in London at the Royal College of Music, as well as the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. He has been fortunate enough to have worked with various ensembles including Arcangelo, the Britten Sinfonia, Cappella Mediterranea, Ensemble Pygmalion, the Gabrieli and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. His is operatic and theatrical work includes Les Troyens with the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique, L’Orfeo with the Nederlandse Reisopera, L’incoronazione di Poppea at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and A Little Night Music with Opera North.
