Since its founding in 2016, the ensemble has released three albums of original music: MeiaMeia (2016) - innova recordings Spinning in the Wheel (2019) - national sawdust tracks Emigre and Exile (2022) - panoramic / new focus recordings Our Brazilian sister ensemble, Arcomusical Brasil, is based in Belo Horizonte, the capital city of Minas Gerais. In 2021 they released their first album of original music: Semente (2021) - selo grão discos Arcomusical is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission to spread the joy of the Afro-Brazilian berimbau musical bow. Arcomusical supports this mission with six pillars: performance, education, composition, publication, research, and community. Although well-known in Brazil, most people in the US are not familiar with the musical bow’s elegant beauty and simplicity, let alone the diverse family of instruments to which the berimbau belongs. Musical bows are the most popular and widespread traditional string instrument found throughout sub-saharan Africa, and enslaved African people brought the idea of their beloved musical bow to Brazil during the tragic Transatlantic slave trade.
