Johnny Fantana is a musical project I came up with to house my retro pop type music. I produce it in a bedroom with my telecaster, mellophone, vocals, and samples. Much of the inspiration of Johnny Fantana comes from early 20th century melodies, 1950s Americana culture, and the classic American genres of rock n roll, jazz. Some modern artists that inspire me are Stephen Sanchez, Laufey, Sarah Kang, Eloise, Jackson Lundy, grentperez, Micah Edwards, Liana Flores, Charlie Burg, and Stephen Day. Irl I go by John and I’m a regular guy who use to work in software but always made music and finally decided to put some out. I’m not trying to be famous. Since I started doing this I get up every morning excited to get to work and that’s all I need. That and to know one day my kids will watch their dad doing something with passion and joy. Nothing wrong with a regular job but, if I can have that and a modest living, I think it would be better than making a killing at a regular job. I also run a music promo outfit on the side called Austin Music Love (@austinmusiclove on IG) where I provide free promo for local artists, put on shows, do booking, host open mics and just try to help out and be a part of the Austin music community. It started as a passion project and now it has grown quite a bit and, I hope, does a lot of good for the community.
