Biography

Vancouver’s genre-bending EDM group Global Party Starters release their much-anticipated sophomore album, “TONIGHT”, featuring radio charting artists Elise Estrada and J.Young. GPS, in its past year, has been nominated for two Canadian Songwriting Awards, were semi-finalists in the Unsigned Only Music Competition, achieved cross-Canada radio play, won a Telus StoryHive grant, and spent the summer on the Stingray hit list alongside DJ Khaled and Calvin Harris. GPS has turned heads for their signature style of taking EDM into non-traditional territory, blending South Asian instrumentation with electronic beats, hip-hop influences and R&B vocals. Their music often contains strong political themes, recently focusing on issues like domestic violence and the taboo of cross-cultural marriage. Most recently, they received media attention for their music video “Gone” – released on the International Day to End Violence again women and based on a true story. The Global Party Starters are on a mission to break South Asian artists out of niche markets and expose them to a wider musical audience. The group is being spearheaded by Juno-nominated DJ A-SLAM, and also includes DJ REKing, SatsB, Seven and Anjali. The group aims to win a Juno in Vancouver in 2018 in the EDM/Dance category – a title that no South Asian artist has yet received.
