Biography

The idea of "Dolly Blonde" was born out of a necessity and craving for pop music. While forming his musical foundation in jazz school, Dolly (Charles Lowe) found himself in need of an outlet to bring what he loved so much in jazz music, together with what he loved about unapologetic pop music. Whether it be a pop/ jazz hybrid, a dance/ ballad marriage, or a glittering/queer mashup, Dolly Blonde is all about the best of both worlds. Dolly got his start in the Montreal music scene by performing in big bands, small jazz ensembles, and revue shows alongside some of Canada’s best musicians such as Ranee Lee and Kim Richardson. At the same time he was also performing in cabaret shows, in between drag acts, and on stage at Fierté Montréal! Dolly Blonde’s upcoming album Bad Brew is a narrative driven album, about mental health, shared lived experience as queer people, and just how much “family” means in terms of what makes us up genetically, and who we choose to be our kin. Inspired by the music of pioneer electronic musician Patrick Cowley (known for producing the icon Sylvester) “Bad Brew” is a prayer on the dance floor, between each hit of the kick drum.
