As the Founder & Creative Director of BMA-nominated event series Nightworks, and producer/beat-maker under the moniker Rah Zen, Jacob Gilman is at the vanguard of Boston's burgeoning beat community. His rich sound consisting of vibrant sample chops, textural percussion & pulsing bass woven into off-kilter, swinging drums, always goes beyond the beat –– as found on his albums Upon the Apex, Midnight Satori and most recently, In Rah Form Vol. 1. He has released music with record labels in both Los Angeles and Boston, and has performed in cities across the country. Upon the Apex received honours at the end of 2019 such as Bandcamp's Best Beat Tapes of the Year, WBUR The ARTery 15 Best Albums Out of Boston, and XLR8R's Best Releases. His debut, Midnight Satori, was also listed in Passion of the Weiss Best 50 Albums of 2017. Rah's relationship with music feels innate, pulsing through his bloodline in an easily traceable way, but also readily apparent in his thought process.
