A lifetime of music is a true testament to the saying that music is life—Jay Ortega’s life. Growing up to various influences such as Led Zeppelin, Steely Dan, The Black Crowes, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, and many more, Jay and his sister, Jan Ortega Roy, found themselves in the middle of the 90s rock scene with their band Gnash that toured the country with Razorback, and Wolfgang. A subsequent life changing trip to Memphis, TN- and a performance at the BB King Club on Beale Street, cemented Jay’s transition into Soul music. This new found sound led to the creation of his current band Holmes, and their debut album “Ray Dee Oh”. As the world adjusted to the pandemic, and his band Holmes took to a quarantine break- Jay devoted his time to releasing solo and collaborative music. Super Steady Girl, Akin, Crazy, Get With It, Better Man, Star and more were released. Star was his first ever song mastered in Dolby Atmos by Waxiefied Sound Production. Revisiting his roots, Jay dropped a collaboration with long time friend David Aguirre formerly of Razorback, and dropped “Oblivion” - A rock infused gospel tune.
