Biography

Kiko Freitas was born in Porto Alegre, Brasil, in a family of musicians, poets and artists, in august 16th,1969. As a professional drummer since 1987,he performed with great artists, such as: Michel Legrand, Nico Assumpção, João Bosco, Milton Nascimento, Chico Buarque, Frank Gambale, Lee Ritenour, John Patitucci, John Beasley, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Jeff Andrews, Hubert Laws, John Leftwich, Wolf Kerschek, Lars Jansson, Nils Landgren, Vladislav Sendecki, James Genus, Ivan Lins, Hamilton de Holanda, Leila Pinheiro, Armando Marçal, Luiz Eça, Francis Hime, NDR Big Band, Thomas Törnhaden, Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos, Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra, Baby do Brasil, Frank Solari, among many others. As an educator, Kiko has been carrying out many clinics in Brazil and around the world, teaching in instituitions like: National Brazilian Drummers Festival, Curso Internacional de Verão-EMB, Masters of the Drums Workshop, Salão Internacional da Bateria, Encontro Latino Americano de Percussão (UFSM), Conservatorium von Rotherdam, Göteborg Music University, Malmö Music University and Stockholm Royal Achademy of Music (Sweden), Hochschule Für Music und Theater- Hamburg, Conservatorium Von Amsterdam, etc... Kiko Freitas plays with João Bosco for 20 years, touring extensively in Brazil, USA and Europe. Kiko was elected Best Drummer in World Music by the Modern Drummer Magazine, in 2019. Kiko Freitas is endorsed by Vic Firth Drumsticks, Paiste Cymbals, Pearl Drums, Urban Boards and Gavazzi Cases.
