ON PUSSY SUITE: ‘This record is a suite of house music, like a movie. The queer experience is kind of like a movie. One with ecstasy, sex, tragedy and loss, our past and future. This is what my music says, and I think that our dance music can express all of these. Because this is what our lives are, what our history is, what our souls are made of. And our dance music is soul music. ‘Pussy Suite’ is a track that I made specifically for the Adonis dancefloor. It’s like a photograph, a distillation of what is at the core of Adonis. Musically, it encapsulates the energy I serve through my sets, and the energy I feel there as a dancer. Percussive, thick, femme-heavy, diva-enabling function music. ‘Invisible’ takes a real deep vocal into a rolling, syncopated and soulful funk groove. The lusciousness and weightlessness of the music underpins the weight of her words - ‘to be invisible will be my claim to fame, a girl with no name, that way I won’t have to feel the pain.’ It’s a really profound sample for me, and juxtaposing it with this subversively soulful, NYC infused instrumentation is what I’m all about as an artist. ‘Moonlight In Strings’ is sweeping and infused in strings. It’s a romantic piece. The modulation of the strings is inspired by my love for old sumptuous film scores. I wanted to distill the new, faster takes on house, but it be something tender and vulnerable. That’s my voice as an artist, there’s a fragility and juxtaposition.’
