Biography

Kyshona is an artist ignited by untold stories, and the capacity of those stories to thread connection in every community. With the background of a licensed music therapist, the curiosity of a writer, the patience of a friend, the vision of a social entrepreneur, the resolve of an activist, and the voice of a singer - Kyshona is unrelenting in her pursuit for the healing power of song. She lends her voice and music to those that feel they have been silenced or forgotten. She facilitates writing sessions with groups and individuals who feel left out or marginalized, in hopes of reconnecting those who are divided. Inspired by Kyshona’s ancestral history, her family members, and her communities, her highly-anticipated forthcoming album “Legacy” chronicles her journey researching and writing about her family and their stories.  To bring the vision of the album to life, Kyshona and Moore assembled an intersectional team of engineers, musicians, singers, and featured guests to record in Memphis, Tennessee at Southern Grooves Studio, created by GRAMMY-winning producer Matt Ross-Spang who also was a supporting engineer on the record. With guest contributions from Ruthie Foster, Keb Mo’, Odessa Settles, and more, the album features songs co-written with Aaron Lee Tasjan, Brittney Spencer, Caroline Spence, Jess Nolan, and others, including Kyshona’s brother, Kelvin Armstrong, her late grandfather, Hawthorne “H.T.” Armstrong. Legacy - available everywhere today.
