David Ricky is a South African singer musician based in Cape Town. Born in Pretoria into a musical family where music was just as important as food .He grew up listening to the likes of Franco Corelli ,Harry Belafonte ,Miriam Makeba, Abdullah Ebrahim ,Johnny Clegg , David Kramer and many others . He plays clarinet ,saxophone and piano but has recorded mainly as a singer .The majority of the songs recorded are all original works written and composed by his father .David spent many years studying singing in both Jazz an Opera genre's .He also played in various bands and did many nightclub gigs. David style has been influenced by crooners, ballad and easy listening singers ranging from Tony Bennett , Michael Buble', Jamie Cullum and of course the legends like Perry Como and Al Martino.The project David Ricky live with Tony Drake Standards Myway is a collection of 12 songs that I have enjoyed singing over the years .It has been so special to be back in the studio again with the new EP featuring my quartet “This could be the Start of Something Big “ other jazz standards like “Almost like being in love “ and “My Foolish Heart” . Exciting news I will be releasing a 10 song album with “The David Ricky Band “ in January 2024 produced and recorded at Atomic Studios Cape Town and released via my recording company “Next Music”
