Biography

T. Rexico is a surf/psychedelia/noise pop outfit consisting of brothers Thomas and Tristin Souvannarath, Rachel Kim, and Hovhannes Tamrazyan. Originally formed by the brothers and middle school friend Bryce Doria in 2015 from the depths of suburban Chula Vista, CA, T. Rexico is currently based in Los Angeles. Their three EPs Rugrats and Regrets, Fake Tides // T. Rexico, and Let’s Take a Dive, released in 2015, 2017, and 2018, respectively, saw the band experimenting with 60’s surf pop kitschiness through lo-fi, yet subtly psychedelic textures. Meanwhile, brothers Souvannarath and Doria worked endlessly on songs that would become their full-length self-titled debut. Sessions for the debut album began at San Diego’s Twin Star Studios in 2018 and finally concluded in 2022 after sessions in Los Angeles. Recording began when the Souvannaraths and Doria were still teenagers, and ended after Bryce’s departure in 2021, as the band was still working on finishing up college. In a way, the album serves as an encapsulation of the band’s adolescence in San Diego, further expanding their sonic palette revolving around the textures of Brian Wilson and adding elements of 1990’s noise pop à la Yo La Tengo and Stereolab. Currently, brothers Souvannarath, Kim, and Tamrazyan are working on songs for future releases, pushing their former psychedelic surf pop-leaning envelope explored on prior releases into a moodier and introspective territory.
