Biography

The Dub Rifles, classified by many as a ska band, formed in 1980, in Winnipeg. Members were lead singer/guitarist Colin Bryce, drummer Eloi Bertholet, saxophonist Matthew Challenger, and bassist Clint Bowman. A year following the group's birth, a second saxophonist, Dave Brown, was brought into the mix. After completing three EPs, the Dub Rifles reached the end of the line in 1984. During its short life, the Dub Rifles toured around parts of Canada; each gig along the way earning the group a growing number of fans. In 1982, the band's first EP, No Town No Country, was completed under the Notown Records label. The five-track debut was followed a year later by two more EPs, Boom and one self-titled offering. Some tunes ended up on a couple of compilations, but nothing else followed after those last recordings in 1983. ~ Charlotte Dillon, Rovi
