Instagram: @_wilcon One word to describe 22-year-old rapper and writer WILCON is different. His personality shines through on his tracks, all of which offer witty non sequitur, unique production and a slice of the eclectic life of a young, burgeoning star. The Tuckahoe, New York native was born in 2001 and began rapping at the ripe age of 15, inspired by a spoken word book report on “The Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini on which he received an A+ and surprised his classmates — and himself — with his innate ability to string words together and tell a story. After uploading several songs to SoundCloud in high school, WILCON self-released his first EP “Low Quality Music 4 High Quality People” in November 2020. A collaborative album titled “Free Carlos” with San Diego-based producer Max Crowe dropped the following April, and his second full-length “YOUTUBE JESUS” was self-released in January 2022. Since “YOUTUBE JESUS,” the rapper relocated to Los Angeles and dropped a string of singles, including the Shno Xavier-assisted “Crazy,” the bombastic “Listen (Earl Joint)” and the comparatively smooth “Focus Up,” the latter of which is to be included on his third self-released full-length album. In addition to rapping, WILCON is a journalist; he works as a digital producer at a Los Angeles news station in addition to freelance writing for several online music publications.
