Parabyl (Ciaran Slemon) is a producer from Cape Town making emotional and left-field, synth-heavy and bass-driven electronic music. With sound rooted in chopped & screwed, dirty, deep-south style trap beats, heavy with 808s and thick snares, his music immediately sets a dark and intense tone, contrasted with a UK IDM-reminiscent display of lush percussion, syncopated rhythms and emotional melodies from retro-futuristic synthesizers; littered with vocal cuts. Genres such as jungle/dnb, 4/4 and house, boom-bap, gqom, synthwave and techno reveal themselves as the compositions grow from minimal to incredibly detailed. Beginning in 2013 with a foray into releasing raps and instrumentals on soundcloud, the focus fast changed to a more serious take on production, leaving his vocal work to his role in “Three Witches”, one of Cape Town’s freshest experimental pop acts. In early 2017, Parabyl adopted the current moniker, releasing ‘Cycads’ which was met with acclaim from members of labels like Terrorrhythm and Yusoul. Having since found direction as a serious producer and musician with strong intent and intense creative ambition, with releases on [capeclub] (ZA) and Sleepwalker Records (ZA), he has earned strong acclaim in his own right. Recently being added to the “Biblo.tv” roster, Markus Wormstorm’s sound library service, as well as becoming one of rapper “Mx Blouse’s” main producers, you can expect some interesting things soon to come from the young producer’s bedroom studio.
