J Hacha De Zola (“A wild man in the vein of such fire breathing artists like Screamin’ Jay Hawkins and Captain Beefheart.” – PASTE) is a Jersey City, NJ-based “Urban Junkyard” artist who, over the course of several LPs, EPs, and iconoclastic covers of pop songs, has established himself as a singular musical force, despite his “difficult” sound. Hacha De Zola’s albums, the last one produced by legendary engineer John Agnello (Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr, Kurt Vile), are created using the artist’s personally developed “Reductive Synthesis” method of “shooting the arrow first, and then painting the target around it.” Hacha De Zola’s live shows are similarly imaginative and unpredictable (fire breathing not guaranteed!). “The kind of alluring character found in old children’s books.” — UTNE “Dangerously delightful, whirling, and rhythmic.” — The Big Takeover “J Hacha De Zola sings a song of unrequited love with ‘Syn Illusión’. As songs on the matter go, this is one that’s bound to light the way forward and inspire a legion of imitators.” — PopMatters “Beckoning listeners somewhere exciting and unfamiliar where menace looms heavy in the air. ” — BTRtoday “It’s as if the late Michael Hutchence decided to partner with Joy Division and create a driving, emotional opus.” — Sound Vapors “A large, spinning rock ‘n’ roll affair as enticing as it is distant and strange.” — MAGNET “Cranks and curdles and clomps around his slithery croon tunes.” — CMJ
