Deep Dive Set is the Afroconscious hip-hop duo comprising of Pretoria based Nigerian vocalist/emcee and sample excavator Damola alongside Joburg based music producer Eye-On Feather. The duo methodically explore themes of neocolonialism using futuristic mutations of pre-colonial folkloric and oral traditions. They embark on a voyage to flip the language of rap on it's head, in order to expose its African heritage. Jazzy philoso-raps splashed over broody lofi-beats swaddled in West African rhythm and sample palettes. Their work harnesses the archival function of hip-hop, regarding the role of sampling in the preservation of black memory. Their music aims to repatriate fragmented elements of the African identity by reinstating them in the thrones of reference.
