Pianist/composer Fabian Almazan, a native of Cuba now residing in New York City, found his musical roots as a child in his homeland of Havana. Founder and director of Biophilia Records, Mr. Almazan has worked towards ensuring a continued dialogue of awareness concerning music and environmental justice. Recently receiving a Grammy nomination for his work on Terence Blanchard E-Collective album, Breathless, Almazan has released four albums under his own name- the most recent “Alcanza” was made possible by Chamber Music America and features a nine movement suite for voice, string quartet, piano, bass & drums. Almazan has toured his music extensively as well as accompanied artists such as Linda May Han Oh, Terence Blanchard, Gretchen Parlato, John Hollenbeck, Mark Guiliana, Dave Douglass, Chris Dingman, David Sanchez, Stefon Harris and Ambrose Akinmusire among others. Awards include the SWR New Jazz Meeting commission, the Copland Fund, the Jerome Fund for Emerging Composers Award, the Jazz Gallery Residency, Cintas Foundation Award in Composition and the Sundance Composers’ Lab.
