Biography

The orchestra l'arte del mondo, founded 2004 by its artistic director and early music pioneer Werner Ehrhardt (founder of Concerto Köln), sees itself in the tradition of so-called early music on historical instruments, but is also dedicated to modern instruments and repertoire, including contemporary music. A hallmark of l'arte del mondo are its innovative programmes, e.g. intercultural musical projects with the Turkish Pera Ensemble or artists from the Beijing Opera. With Daniel Hope and Recomposed By Max Richter: Vivaldi, The Four Seasons, l'arte del mondo has been a guest all over the world. The ensemble regularly collaborates with soloists such as Nils Mönkemeyer, Daniel Müller-Schott, Dorothee Oberlinger and Xavier De Maistre. l'arte del mondo performed at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Rheingau Music Festival, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Dubai Opera, Theater Winterthur, Münchner Herkulessaal, Festival Montréal Baroque, Musikfestspiele Potsdam Sanssouci, SWR Schwetzinger Festspiele, Beethovenfest Bonn, and toured South America with Avi Avital. Their latest of 30 CD-recordings is the first complete performance of the opera Goethe & Kayser: Scherz, List und Rache (2020, available on a dhm/Sony album); a new Sony album with Nils Mönkemeyer was released in March 2021. l'arte del mondo has been sponsored by Bayer Kultur as permanent orchestra in residence since the 2010/11 season.
