Michael Rothman is a multi-instrumentalist from Brazil based in London, as well as a teacher of the Alexander Technique. Having started with the drum kit, he’s been exploring timbers and styles with other instruments and bands since his youth, ranging from punk rock to Brazilian music, passing through jazz and pop. Michael's music aims for the future. A mixture of contemporary jazz with effects and grooves, flirting with minimalism and complex ideas. Michael's process went through exploring textures within an improvisational character, diluting these ideas into simple and creative forms, with a storytelling intention. He set himself the challenge of playing all the instruments in his first album, but gave opening to one different instrument per track, inviting different musicians to add to his compositions. The album contains tracks with violin, cello, trumpet, sax and trombone that add character to the sweetness of the flute present in each track. Michael says: "I always thought that the flute was an instrument that hasn't been explored to it's full potential. So I wanted to spice things up a little, and explore the possibilities within it's beautiful sonority." The experimental aspect of Michael's music is quite clear in all of his work, and his plan is to create a body of work that spans through several different genres and music forms.
