Nigerian-born and Brooklyn-based indie-soul artist Black Hibiscus blends his rich cultural heritage with the eclectic sounds of his adopted city in his latest release, the single and video for "DON’T WANNA MISS U." Drawing inspiration from the iconic production styles of the Neptunes and Timbaland, Black Hibiscus crafts a bass-heavy, bouncy track that explores the complexities of a relationship on the brink of collapse. In "DON’T WANNA MISS U," Black Hibiscus, alongside collaborator Mai Anna, portrays a couple at a crossroads—one partner pushing to confront the issues at hand, while the other clings to the hope of reconciliation. The track's infectious energy reflects a new creative challenge for Black Hibiscus, as he navigates the balance between vibrant rhythms and the raw emotions of love and loss. Reflecting on the process, Black Hibiscus shares, "That song gave me the most hell. I was learning to create that ‘bounce.’ It was about focusing on energy rather than softer emotions."
