Biography

Marris Mielnick is a New York-born artist, composer and producer who creates abstract hip-hop and electronic music as A.M. Breakups. Since childhood, Mielnick has experimented with electronic production, specifically focused on sample-based composition, and has studied in programs focused on both composition and engineering. During his tenure as an envelope-pusher in Brooklyn's underground hip-hop scene, Breakups founded the now legendary Reservoir Sound collective/label, with members including Jeff Markey, Mc Eleven, Teddy Faley, Skech185, Warren Britt, E L U C I D, DJ Dyllemma, Lt Headtrip, Shape and others. For years, the Reservoir Sound crew established itself as a team of creatives whose records and live shows lead the way in NYC's alternative hip-hop underground. A.M. Breakups' work is defined by a focus on texture and atmosphere, and pays tribute to the finest of left-field hip-hop's sample-based origins as well as early ambient & IDM, industrial, and electro-acoustic composition. Over the years he has released three solo albums, and a slew of EPs and compilations of his productions. His group Cult Favorite, with ELUCID (of Armand Hammer), released their album "For Madmen Only" in 2013 on Reservoir Sound. 3 years later, Warren Britt, Da Gent & A.M. would release "Captures, Vol. 1" as We Are Not for Them. Look up his work with Backwoodz Studioz & billy woods (producing 3 songs for the breakout "History Will Absolve Me" LP), Vordul Mega (of Cannibal Ox), etc...
