Biography

Nottingham based rap artist Cappo has practiced hip hop lyricism for over two decades. During this time, he has had the privilege to perform alongside artists such as Public Enemy, Big Daddy Kane, Guru, DJ Premier, Jeru The Damaja, Styles P, Cormega, Pharoahe Monch, Slum Village, Children of Zeus (Konny Kon), Scorzayzee, and Juga-Naut. He has toured with UK hip hop outfit The Herbaliser (Ninja Tune, 2005) and post-punk music duo Sleaford Mods (Rough Trade Records, 2016), performing at many of the UK and Europe’s premier live music venues. Throughout his career, he has released music on various record labels including The Heavy Bronx EP series (P. Brothers, HBE, 1999), Spaz the World (Zebra Traffic, 2003) Genghis (Son Records, 2010), The Boot EP (Boot Records, 2014), Dramatic Change of Fortune (YNR Productions, 2016), Postmodernism (Village Live, 2018), and Raw Pastiche (Oblique Strategies, WeStayTrue, 2020). His critical-creative Ph.D. thesis ‘Intertextuality and Literary Allusion in Hip Hop Lyricism’ is due for completion in summer 2022, and will culminate with the release of a trilogy of LPs.
