Biography

What do you get if you cross a ping-pong party in Iceland and a Paul McCartney doll head with a set of synths and samplers? For LA-based producer and composer Brendan Angelides, the result was a pivotal Tiny Desk performance which teleported his electronic antics into score writing for TV, film and video games. Consider it a prophecy fulfilled for an artist regarded by NPR’s Bob Boilen, the man behind the desk and fellow table tennis guest, as ‘part musician, part magician.’ ‘I take sound seriously, and I take “not being serious” seriously,’ Angelides says of his creative approach. ‘I’m very focused on what I’m doing, but there’s a sense of spontaneity and playing with the act of fumbling and stumbling around as a human.’ Forever willing to step into the unknown and lean into the uncomfortable, Angelides has traced his own path of dynamic experimental sound for the past two decades, as both a solo artist and collaborator, conjuring releases under his former monikers ‘Eskmo’ and ‘Welder’ with labels Ninja Tune, Interscope, Warp, Planet Mu and Apollo, as well as his own imprint, Ancestor.
