Dyddiau Du Dyddiau Gwyn

Biography

Alternative country/folk/rock band consisting of three brothers Iwan, Aled and Dafydd Hughes and accompanying musicians. They experiment with country, folk and rock music. Most of their lyrics are in Welsh. Formed in 2006 and released their debut album, Dawns Y Trychfilod in 2007. Recorded 2nd album Dyddiau Du, Dyddiau Gwyn with producer David Wrench and released in 2010 to widespread acclaim and airplay. Third album Draw Dros y Mynydd – again produced by David Wrench – was released in summer 2012, saw airplay on BBC Radio 2, Radio 3 and 6 Music and was shortlisted for the Welsh Music Prize 2012. In 2016, their fourth album (IV) was released, again receiving national BBC airplay and review. In 2023 released the double single Clawdd Eithin / Adenydd and and a live album ‘Yn Fyw! Galeri Caernarfon’ In March 2024, sixth album ‘Mynd â’r tŷ am dro’ was released. Cowbois Rhos Botwnnog have toured extensively in Wales and beyond, including England, Scotland, Ireland, Argentina, Finland and Vietnam. Played at festivals such as Green Man Festival, Wakestock, No Direction Home, Eisteddfod Genedlaethol and Focus Wales. Outside the band, individual members have toured with acts such as Gruff Rhys, Gwenno and Georgia Ruth, appearing at Glastonbury festival, Latitude, Hyde Park, Primavera and the Kala Ghoda Festival in Mumbai.
