Guitarist, singer-songwriter based in Toronto ON, he was born in Madagascar and grew up in the USSR (Russia), speaks fluently in Malagasy, Russian, French and English. Donné Roberts is one of the hottest acts on the current world music scene in Canada. His voice and dexterous guitar-playing, with its fluid melodic lines and compelling grooves, places him in the front ranks among Canadian guitarists. He’s earned a matchless reputation for the excellence of the excitement and the positive energy of his live shows, his musicianship and collaborations with various international musicians and singers such as: Amanda Martinez, Sultans of String, African Guitar Summit, Okavango African Orchestra, Julian Fauth, Na-Na, Ace of Bace and more. From touring as a back up singer for Ace of Base, to a stint as the first black VJ on MTV Russia, Donné has led a prolific and varied artistic life since he left his home country of Madagascar as a boy. He first came to wider recognition in his adopted home of Canada with the release of two great albums: Rhythm Was Born, Internation and his collaborations with African Guitar Summit. Their success led to CBC Radio asking him to compose the theme song for their popular morning show Fresh Air, which still runs today.
