The music of Tárkány Művek grew out of the musical milieu surrounding the Hungarian folk music movement, melting into itself the currents of Hungarian traditional music, jazz, beat and pop that had already intertwined and developed together, this special musical world could only be born here in Hungary. Tárkány Művek, winner of the Junior Prima prize, was founded by Bálint Tárkány-Kovács, a dulcimer artist and songwriter, so he writes the Tárkány songs, texts, and revisions. Dulcimer, viola and bass evokes the sound of folk string bands, but the guitar colours this with jazz and blues moods. Borbala Fekete naturally combines the subtle inflections of folk songs and the rhythms of pop music, and with the addition of Júlia Viszkeleti and Bálint's choir, a real vocal group sound is created. Bálint's lyrics are mostly lyrical, bittersweet, sometimes philosophical and contemplative. His texts are mixed with beautiful folk lyrics and masterpieces of Hungarian poets. Bálint's songs sometimes mix folk music themes with jazz, blues or pop elements, and sometimes they rework a jazz or pop song with folk music instruments. His own original songs also reflect these musical influences. The songs are playful and witty, their sound is mostly transparent and clean, the improvisation is especially decisive for the instrumental soloists. During its 14-years, the band has so far produced 5 LPs. Apart from Hungary, they regularly perform in Romania, Slovakia, Poland, Austria, and Serbia.
