This Irish born musician is the UK’s answer to alternative R&B. With his contemporary-meets-trap instrumentals and alluringly melancholic lyrics, Joize’s music is in a league of its own, setting himself apart from the typical R&B sound the UK is used to. On songs like ‘Mannifornication’ and ‘The Morning’, Joize communicates deep feelings of nostalgia as well as his experiences with love and heartbreak over a blend of infectious R&B instrumentals. While songs like ‘Restless’ enter us into the artists world of romantic regrets, reflecting on past relationships and what could have been. Quoting the likes of Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield as inspirations, alongside modern greats such as The Weeknd, Travis Scott and PartyNextDoor, Joize says: ‘To me, melody is a lost art in today's music, with a lot of musicians choosing to rely on beats and chord progressions. I love bending my voice to match the vibe and mood of a track, and I think that's one of my core strengths.’ Raised in Ireland, Joize pursued music as a cathartic release following childhood trauma including the breakdown of his parents marriage as well as racism at the hands of his classmates. Subsequent feelings of loss, isolation and ostracisation catalysed his urge to express his emotions through music. The artist found solace in creating his now distinct and recognisable sound and continues to release his catalogue of heartfelt, relatable music.
