As their name suggests, Double_Negative are a positive force within the New Zealand breakbeat scene. The lads, John Henderson and Nick Gardner met at an audio engineering course in 2002 and have been making waves in the breakbeat scene ever since. They began with drum n bass tunes and eventually progressed to producing solid, original breakbeat tunes which formed a unique sound, some dark and techy, others atmospheric but altogether their own. Nowadays, Double_Negative have been delving into the Mid Tempo / Glitch Hop genre with some good results. Double_Negative has been DJing at various venues over the last decade and also featured on the Electric Caboose show on Radio Active 89fm. They have DJ’d alongside major players: Freq Nasty, Rouge Element, Breakfastaz, Plump Djs, Stanton Warriors, Krafty Cuts, NAPT & Atomic Hooligan. Double_Negative have also had their own tunes released on UK label: Mechanoise, US label Trans:verse, RUNE:RECORDINGS, Supalife and NZs own Empathy Recordings. They have also worked on remixes and collaborations with Opiuo, The Upbeats (NZ), Neztic (Mexico) and White Papoo (France). Having developed a techy and bass driven production sound, Double_Negative are committed and devoted producers always on the search for the best breaks and phattest bass lines than ever.
