Born and raised in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada, Karl has called Paris his home for the past twenty-five years. One of the most in-demand drummers in France, Karl completes his musical identity with his songwriting which has aptly been described as “an enchanting crossroads between cosmic pop and hypnotic jazz”. Karl's most recent album, The Pull, will be released on January 24, 2025. The music features french vocalist Cynthia Abraham who has been the voice of Karl's music since 2017 and appears on the albums Duality (2022) and On The Brighter Side (2018). His album Midseason (2016) features Canadian vocalists Denzal Sinclaire & Sienna Dahlen. Sienna is also the featured vocalist on Karl's albums The Halfway Tree (2012) and Streaming (2010). Karl started his solo project with two instrumental albums Thinking in Colours (2009) and Liberating Vines (2004). In 2021 Karl released the EP, Featherweight - Sofie Sorman Sings the Music of Karl Jannuska with Swedish vocalist Sofie Sörman. In 2016 Karl co-founded the Shed Music collective with Christophe Panzani, Pierre Perchaud and Tony Paeleman - members of his close-knit musical family who also form the band, The Watershed. Karl's drumming can be heard on over 120 recordings with musicians including Lee Konitz, Brad Mehldau, Lionel Loueke, Matthis Pascaud, Hugh Coltman, Pierre de Bethmann, Ben Wendel, Seamus Blake, Toine Thys and Sam Yahel.
