If when you hear rap music you imagine agression and violence, think again. Shaykh Hanif is insightful, poetic, introspective and his music is a brief glimpse into his upbringing and surroundings. When asked why he raps, Shaykh Hanif says “He wants to give a voice to the voiceless, and to be a beacon of hope to the people in his community.” Shaykh Hanif's belief is that nobody to should just rap just to do it, and If you're going to have a platform to influence people you should use it for good. He has been using his influence to give back since 2019 when… he was released from prison after serving 10 years. Shaykh Hanif uses his music to educate and shed light on the conditions faced by so many today. Through his lyrics he tell stories of his experiences to hightlight and illustrate oppressive urban conditions.
