David Ashley was born and raised on Chicago’s west side. Using nostalgia and a funny criticality, he weaves together everything from “death being an all-ages show” to his newfound love for steaks medium rare. Debuting with Jody, a weird boy-band collaboration with The Drum, they brought ambient and classic R&B together. Magique, their first EP, was released in 2013 followed by a performance at Lollapalooza. Ashley established Posture Inc. -- a collective production house -- with Supreme Cuts and others in 2014, releasing his first solo album Perfect Dark that fall. With a string of projects, Caixo with Bobby Swan (2017), Draco (2018), and an ongoing series Strictly 4 The Heads (since 2016), Ashley has been published in The Fader, Pitchfork, and Lyrical Lemonade among others. A contemporary griot, David Ashley brings disparate worlds together, building new social imagery and a heady yet elegant sonic lexicon to soak into.
