Dan Costa is a cosmopolitan jazz/ world music pianist, composer and producer, praised for melodic sensibility (DownBeat), rare and luxurious output (All About Jazz) and profound expression (Jazziz). His music reflects his mixed cultural background as well as his fondness for the natural environment, bringing together philosophical concepts, modern jazz colours and world music rhythms. It has been featured by Rolling Stone Magazine, Sky, the BBC and others. Costa has collaborated with artists such as Ivan Lins, Randy Brecker, John Patitucci, Mike Stern, Hermeto Pascoal, Dave Liebman, Dave Douglas, Jaques Morelenbaum, Leila Pinheiro, Nelson Faria, Ricardo Silveira, Marcos Suzano, Roberto Menescal, Teco Cardoso, Romero Lubambo, Marcelo Martins, Jorge Helder, Vittor Santos, Augusto Mattoso, Marcio Bahia, Alberto Continentino, Paulinho Vicente and Seamus Blake. Following classical and jazz music studies at the Académie de Musique Rainier III and popular music at Paul McCartney's LIPA, he graduated in jazz piano at ESMAE with a Rotary Club award for outstanding achievement. He won an Ibero-American grant and studied Brazilian music at UNICAMP, later pursuing further studies at Berklee College of Music with a merit scholarship. He has performed on six continents and has done masterclasses at several institutions. With degrees in philosophy, history and linguistics, Costa has also worked extensively as an educator and writer. www.dancosta.net
