Biography

Anne Linnet, a pioneering Danish pop/rock singer, songwriter, painter, and author, has enjoyed a career that spans an impressive five decades. Her distinctive phrasing, forthright, feministic-leaning lyricism, and ability to adapt to multiple musical styles have all contributed to her success. In addition to her solo work, Linnet's tenures with bands like Tears, Anne Linnet Band, Shit & Chanel, Bitch Boys, and Marquis de Sade have further solidified her place in Danish music history. Born in Aarhus on July 30, 1953, Linnet began releasing albums in the early '70s, such as Sweet Thing and Tears in My Ears, both with the band Tears, and the all-female jazz-rock outfit Shit & Chanel, before starting the Anne Linnet Band just in time for the onset of the '80s. The Anne Linnet Band, fronted by a trio of female vocalists -- Linnet, Sanne Salomonsen, and Lis Sørensen -- released their self-titled debut in 1981 and a follow-up in 1982. Linnet then went on to record and release a pair of albums with new wave group Marquis de Sade, and -- on her own -- in 1989, recorded the children's album Go' Sønda' Morn'. From then on, Linnet focused mainly on her successful solo career, with brief forays into other bands -- a Marquis de Sade release in 2002, for example -- and released a best-of compilation entitled Nattog til Venus in 1999. In 2007, Linnet issued the album Akvarium on Sony, which would peak at the top spot on her nation's album charts. In the 2010s, Linnet appeared as a judge on the sixth season of the Danish reality show X Factor and released a trio of well-received solo efforts: Linnet's Jul, Kalder længsel, and Alle mine drømme til dig. 2022 saw the release of Sange til livet, a collection of previously unreleased songs written between 2003 and 2022. Two years later, she issued her 20th studio effort, a collection of covers titled Rubiner safirer krystaller. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi
