Already a year and a half after his debut (double!) album, The Boy from Haeundae Beach, hyped Danish-Korean producer and multi-instrumentalist Ki! is back with his second album, the first of a two-part 2024-album. Yong-Gwanglo Part One is out in April 2024 and is as eclectic as the entire first record over almost half as many songs, spanning from retro-futuristic sci-fi, Ethiopian jazz and spaghetti western to wellness, disco and Van Halen-heroic and Khruangbin-tinged epics. The variety of genres, styles and sounds on the album is all over the map, drawing inspirations from different periods and from all over the world. Processing and digesting it all, Ki! is producing music that feels truly singular and authentic, but has a through-line that only really communicates itself when you look at the big picture. There is a holistic aspect to Ki!’s eclecticism that gives his music the breadth and depth that ultimately is the real attraction.
