KARU - Swahili word meaning chaos - is associated with a mythological character who naively heals people through music. Alberto Brutti is the double bass player and leader of the project named after this myth: “music is a powerful tool for communicating spiritual messages”. KARU explores the connection between the ancestral rhythm of tribal culture and the freedom of jazz, deriving from Alice Coltrane and Charles Mingus. His compositions are characterised by the pounding double bass thuds and an eccentric sax; yet what makes them even more mystical and avant-garde are the old school trip hop elements such as samples and drum machines. KARU’s music takes the listener on a journey out of reality, rediscovering the ancestral impulses that connect us more deeply with sound. This is why his live shows are unmissable experiences: sophisticated and evocative, marked by darker notes and sudden interludes, like a mysterious myth that has yet to be deciphered.
