Since the days of his tumultuous youth, music has long been Zilla’s outlet. His ability to express emotion via pen and voice is impressive, and he possesses deep wells from which to tap. Born in Portland, Oregon to a highly dysfunctional home, Quiz's life has been a constant battle to remain on top. Often homeless as a child, he moved from the great Northwest to the music city of Nashville, TN. There Quiz discovered his ability to rap, learning from his friends and heavily influenced by Southern rappers at the time. At the age of 12, Quiz moved back to Portland and again found himself homeless with his mother, struggling to make ends meet. He ran away from home at the age of 14, deciding he had a better chance of surviving on his own. Miraculously, he was adopted-and for the first time in his life, he found himself able to exhale. Thus began a pivotal period of musical self-discovery. Having a loving, stable situation, his musical exploration was able to blossom and he recorded his first songs in a home studio. Quiz moved out on his own and was blessed with a daughter at the young age of 18. Although it seemed like things were moving in the right direction for Quiz, ominous challenges remained looming in the future. Quiz’s foster mother tragically passed away from an alleged suicide and his life spiraled out of control, culminating with spending 2 years in prison. Thankfully he has never had to face the penal system since and has dedicated his life to music and his family.
