Nova Skyi, a versatile singer/rapper, songwriter and performer born and raised in South London. Though a british native, her heritage is Jamaican. Birthed with the name Shantelle Rochester she never felt that her name expressed her creative character, so Nova Skyi was born. Nova meaning new and Skyi meaning free derived from her wanting to break down the stigma attached to female artists in the UK and worldwide and bring about an inclusive and refreshing sound. In an age where it has become the norm for female artists in the industry to fight for the top position, Skyi represents sisterhood and female empowerment, she does not believe in discrediting other artists for her own gain and is a strong believer in standing up for what is right. Her outgoing personality and self confidence has allowed her to empower all those who work with her. She believes music is a powerful tool to express how she feels about world views and her personal experiences Skyi has an eclectic ear when it comes to her breadth of music ranging from a pop style similar to Madonna and Adele to a hip hop style similar to 2pac, Biggie and So Solid Crew to a contemporary R&B style similar to Beyonce and Rhianna with a house twist. Skyi’s soon to be released ep ‘different shades of me’ explores this diverse mix of genres.
