Hailing from Little Rock, the capital city of Arkansas which is known mostly for the HBO special “Bangin’ in Little Rock,” the Little Rock Nine and more recently the Netflix series “Unlocked,” you can see the biggest obstacles in this city for most people especially African Americans was overcoming high crime and violence while also overcoming oppression at the hands of police and government officials. Even though both parents were present that didn’t mean life would be easy for Big D and his brothers. Surrounded by drug dealing and gang banging, his parents tried hard to keep him buried in sports and school to keep his focus away from negative influences but their financial struggles and constant arguing with one another put pressure on Big D to help make a change.
