It is no stylistic coincidence that Clément Durand chose to shroud the chalk cliffs of Normandy in darkness: this landscape is his source of inspiration. His music is inspired by the history and topography of a secret beach nestled out of sight, facing the English Channel. Starting off with a first EP ‘Made to disappear’ in 2020, which revealed an introspective and ardent identity, he went on to release ‘Blow’ in 2021 (Mouton Noir Records). His techno has been described by Tsugi as ‘demanding but very approachable’. Following an EP of remixes (MNNQNS, Matt Robertson - a remixer of Björk, or Keeper Lo: there are many affinities), Roches Noires intends to continue working on sound as a material, like a universal spectrum between black and white and like the fragments of limestone punctuating the Normandy shoreline that become anthracite with the tides. As a preliminary space to the producer's electronica, the movement of time can be found in both the escalations and the cold and contemplative phases. A formidable force at festivals and during sound creation in general (theatres, exhibitions, short films), this architect of textures has crossed paths with, among others, Museau as a featuring artist and Rone on stage. He is preparing new experiences to populate his beaches, at the rhythm of the waves that inspire him deeply.
