Biography

Taranczewski is a trio that defies expectations and blurs genre lines. Led by pianist Olaf Taranczewski, who has won multiple awards including the German Film Music award, the group's minimalist sound is infused with a cinematic sensibility and a hint of neo-classicism. Taranczewski’s soundscapes are meditative, reflective, and introspective, inviting the listener to take a step back and contemplate their own existence. The music is a reminder that sometimes the most profound truths are found in the quiet spaces between notes. The trio, which also features bassist Jean Philippe Wadle and drummer Benedikt Stehle, has also collaborated with German DJ duo Blank & Jones, solidifying their reputation as "the quiet rebellion of jazz," as German SCHALL magazine has dubbed them. The renowned German NDR Radio show Play!Jazz describes their approach to sound as „at the same time absolutely timeless and very modern“, incorporating effects such as delay and spacey reverbs, as well as their use of unusual instruments like pan drums and the upright piano, which is muted with felt, creating a sound reminiscent of neo-classical pianists such as Nils Frahm and Olafur Arnalds, but with a distinctly jazz twist.
